MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE (MLD)
After surgery, most people experience swelling. This swelling often resolves after applying ice regularly or using a cold unit therapy for a few days. But in certain cases, the swelling doesn't resolve as promptly.
There are also cases in which lymph nodes are removed, and sometimes with radiation and/ or other cancer treatments, the swelling may persist. When the lymphatic system is impaired, this becomes chronic swelling called lymphedema; when your lymphatic system cannot keep up draining the lymphatic load.
Whether you experience swelling from either situation, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) can help alleviate the swelling by redirecting the lymphatic fluid to other nodes in your body.
MLD is a light touch type of massage aiming to redirect swelling to other parts of your body, helping improve drainage from an area. MLD is extremely soothing and relaxing...some people choose this treatment for relaxation purposes as well...
